Preacher Season 2 air date confirmed, new pictures, new casting

New faces join Preacher Season 2 as Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy hit the road

The first pictures from the second season of Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Preacher TV series have arrived along with an air-date: 19 June.

The new stills (via Comic Book Movie) show Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), Tulip O’Hare (Ruth Negga) and Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) on the road following that rather final end to Annville, Texas, as well as The Saint Of Killers (Graham McTavish), who’s hot on their tail.

There aren’t a huge number of details when it comes to plot specifics for Season 2, but one bit of exciting information is that Herr Starr will be making a proper appearance following his cheeky cameo in Season One. And where Herr Starr goes, the Grail will surely follow….

There was also some casting news (via Deadline), although, as you might expect, there’s no word as to who these new additions will actually be playing.

The most excellent Noah Taylor (Game Of Thrones, Almost Famous, Red White And Blue, Submarine) will probably be the most familiar face among the newcomers, and he’ll be a series regular alongside Pip Torrens (Poldark, The Crown, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Julie Ann Emery (Fargo, Mrs Kettleman in Better Call Saul).

It feels like Torrens would be an excellent choice for Herr Starr (he’s certainly got the steely eyes for it), and Taylor would be a great Si Coltrane (we just really want to see Si Coltrane in Preacher, so we will be thinking about the possibility of any new addition playing that character). However, as the first season showed, Rogen, Ennis and showrunner Sam Catlin aren’t necessarily sticking rigidly to Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s comic, so we should definitely expect some brand new characters.

Preacher has also added some recurring guest stars: Malcolm Barrett (War on Everyone, Dear White People, Better Off Ted), Ronald Guttman (Homeland, Mozart in the Jungle) and Justin Prentice (13 Reasons Why, Malibu Country).

The first season of Preacher may have been a little slow, and it may have surprised viewers expecting a straight recreation of the comics, but it absolutely rewarded your patience, and it had some of the most outrageous set-pieces on telly last year (in-flight carnage, corncob, chainsaw in a church, angel in a motel room…). With that grounded build-up now completed, we can’t wait to see Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy hit the road. Actually, we just can’t wait to have Tulip and Cassidy back on our screens.

Preacher Season 2 will begin on AMC on 19 June and will air on Amazon Prime shortly afterwards. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
