Powerless DC TV series adds Spring Breakers star

DC’s TV comedy pilot Powerless has its first lead star

Anything Marvel can do, we can do better. At least that seems to be the mantra DC is going by, following up their rival’s blockbuster team-ups with their own incarnations. Now, this even seems to be extending into the world of TV. Remember Damage Control, Marvel’s upcoming series telling of the company who clean up the rubble in the wake of superhero battles? Well, now DC has their own (remarkably similar sounding) show: step forward Powerless.

With the pilot being made by NBC, Variety reports that the new show has even cast a lead actress in the form of Spring Breakers and High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens, who will play Emily Locke, a claims adjuster at one of the worst insurance firms in the US, who are regularly left footing the bill after the latest superhuman smackdown decimates the streets. According to the report, Emily “loves keeping to herself and helping others with through job. However, she becomes irritated by the superhuman activity running rampant through her city.” No other cast members have been confirmed yet, but with Hudgens’ addition, we’re sure that more will follow.

The half-hour long pilot is being penned by Ben Queen (Cars 2), who will also be on executive producing duties alongside Michael Patrick Jann (Drop Dead Gorgeous, Reno 911), who is directing the first episode. Of course, the pilot still needs to be a hit in order for it to break out into series form, but it has every chance of that. It’s got the distinction of being both superhero-themed and pretty unique in its own way, so touch wood that it breaks out and becomes a success.

An air date for Powerless is yet to be announced. For all the latest news about the biggest TV shows, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
