Fox has announced that it will pick up the pilot for Past Life, with the property going to series for release in the autumn. The CW has also announced that it will be commissioning a series for Vampire Diaries.
Past Life follows a psychologist and ex-NYPD homicide detective as they solve traumas in their clients past lives to help them in the present. The show was until recently branded with the working title of The Reincarnationist, and was not widely expected to go to series. The news puts Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles in further jeopardy and greatly reduces their already slim chances of returning after the summer.
Vampire Diaries, based on the series of books by L J Smith, follows a girl caught between two warring vampiric brothers, one good and one evil, who are battling for her soul and the lives of her friends. The network announces its schedule next Thursday, and is reportedly looking for staff writers and producers for the project.
