Outlander fans! There isn’t too long to wait until we’re reunited with Jamie, Claire and co for Season 7 of the period-jumping time-travelling series but before then, the newest iteration of the Outlander opening title sequence has been revealed and the title song has been performed by none other than Sinéad O’Connor herself!

The series has adapted its iconic theme song, ‘The Skye Boat Song’ to each season, drawing inspiration from upcoming storylines and locations. And this season’s interpretation was crafted and performed by Sinead O’Connor.

Roberts, showrunner and executive producer of Outlander. “Her rendition is, for me, a reminder of all that’s beautiful about Outlander. She is talented beyond measure. Hers is a voice of the ages — one which pierces heart and soul — and embodies the spirit of the show,”
Outlander stars Caitríona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin, John Bell, David Berry, Caitlin O’Ryan, Paul Gorman and Keziah Beardsley alongisde newcomers Charles Vandervaart as ‘William Ransom,’ Izzy Meikle-Small as ‘Rachel Hunter’ and Joey Phillips as ‘Denzell Hunter’ for Season Seven.
Series Seven will be the penultimate season for the popular show, with Season Eight being its final series (check out the announcement for S8 below) but fear not Outlander fans, as a prequel show is already in the works, named Outlander: Blood of My Blood .
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be an original series from Outlander executive producers Matthew B. Roberts, Ronald D. Moore and Maril Davis.
The prequel series will comprise 10-episodes and will centre on the lives and relationship of Jamie Fraser’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
“Blood of My Blood is, at its heart, a love story,” explains Roberts. “It will explore what lengths a person will go to find love in a time when love is considered a luxury, and when marriages are made strategically, often for political or financial gain.
“The title is a nod to Jamie Fraser’s marriage vow to Claire and there will be several names and faces that ‘Outlander’ fans will know and recognize. Jamie and Claire’s TV story may be coming to an end with Season Eight, but Diana is continuing on with their literary journey in her wonderful book series and is working diligently on Book Ten. With Jamie and Claire, and now Brian and Ellen, there is still so much more to come in the ‘Outlander’ universe, and we cannot wait to continue sharing these stories with our dedicated fans.”
