New Line and Warner Bros, who are producing the update of Juan Antonio Bayona’s 2007 thriller, hired the director, whose previous credits include The Mothman Prophecies and Arlington Road. Original creative supervisor Guillermo del Toro, Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are attached to produce, Variety reports.

The original film, titled El Orfanato in its native Spanish language, focuses on a woman who takes over ownership of an orphanage where she was raised. When her son disappears, she becomes more and more frantic in her search for him as supernatural events begin to occur around her.
