Luke Cage new clip meet the villainous Cottonmouth

Luke Cage’s villain Cottonmouth knows everybody wants to be king…

Marvel’s Luke Cage is just around the corner, and Netflix has dropped a new teaser clip to give you a taste of what you’re in for.

The clip features Mahersahala Ali as Cornell Stokes, better known to comic book readers, and to the characters of Luke Cage who are terrified of him, as mob boss Cottonmouth. He’s got a giant Biggie photo, he knows that everybody wants to be the king, and he’s going to beat the crap out of you to make sure that he stays on the throne.

We can’t wait to see Ali in the role. He’s an excellent character actor who’s been putting in superb work for years. Recently you probably saw him in House Of Cards as canny operator Remy Danton, but he’s also popped up in everything from The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button to Predators. He’s really coming into his own at the moment, with this, acclaimed drama Moonlight, historical prestige picture The Free State Of Jones, and the brilliant looking Hidden Figures on the way.

In case you’d forgotten, Luke Cage stars Mike Colter in the title role, as well as Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Frankie Faison as Pop, Frank Whaley as Scarfe, Theo Rossi as Shades, and the excellent Alfre Woodard as Mariah Dillard, while Rosario Dawson returns as Claire Temple. Cheo Hodari Coker is the showrunner.

“After a sabotaged experiment leaves him with super strength and unbreakable skin, Luke Cage (Mike Colter) becomes a fugitive trying to rebuild his life in modern day Harlem, New York City. But he is soon pulled out of the shadows and must fight a battle for the heart of his city – forcing him to confront a past he had tried to bury.”

Luke Cage hits Netflix on 20 September. Get all the latest superhero news with every issue of SciFiNow.
