Lego Batman movie finds its Batgirl

Daredevil star will trade Hell’s Kitchen for building blocks in Lego Batman

It’s been some time since we’ve heard anything about Lego Movie spinoff Lego Batman, but now we finally have something new to say, with Daredevil star Rosario Dawson being announced as the latest incarnation of Batgirl.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dawson will join a cast that currently includes Will Arnett (reprising his role as Batman/Bruce Wayne from the original movie) and Michael Cera, who will (very aptly) be playing Robin. In addition, The Hangover star Zach Galifianakis is believed to be in negotiations for the role of the Joker. Judging by the roster, its going for the same light-hearted tone that contributed to the original movie being such a hit – an approach we can hardly argue with.

Chris McKay (the animation supervisor on The Lego Movie) is stepping up to the director’s chair, working on a script by Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter), with original directors Christopher Miller and Phil Lord producing alongside Dan Lin and Roy Lee.

The Lego Batman Movie will be released in cinemas on 10 February 2017. Check out the comics that inspired the characters seen in the film in the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics bookazine now.
