Joker movie wants Marc Maron to join Joaquin Phoenix

Glow’s Marc Maron is up for a role in Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker movie

Casting for Todd Phillips’ dark Joker origin story is in full swing, with Zazie Beetz, Robert De Niro and Frances Conroy all lined up to star alongside Joaquin Phoenix, and another name has been added to the impressive roster.

Variety reports that Marc Maron is in talks to join the movie, playing “an agent on Robert De Niro’s talk show who plays a part in booking Phoenix’s character, and eventually causing him to go mad and become the Clown Prince of Crime.”

That’s pretty much the most information we’ve had about the plot of Joker so far, by the way, beyond the emphasis on “gritty thriller” and comparisons to Scorsese movies The King Of Comedy and Taxi Driver.

Maron is best known as a comedian and for his WTF podcast, and he’s recently been doing excellent work on the Netflix series Glow as hangdog director Sam Sylvia.

Production on Joker is set to start in September in New York. So it’s only a matter of time before we see what Phoenix looks like in character…

Joker will be released on 4 October 2019. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
