JJ Abrams supernatural Nazi movie Overlord casts first two leads

Jovan Adepo and Wyatt Russell will fight supernatural Nazis in Overlord

If the news that JJ Abrams was producing a WW2-set Nazi supernatural movie had somehow got past you, the news that it’s just cast its first two leads is here to make sure you don’t forget in a hurry.

Deadline reports that Jovan Adepo (Fences, The Leftovers) and Wyatt Russell (Everybody Wants Some!!, Black Mirror) are the first two to sign up for Overlord. Abrams is producing the film with Lindsey Weber, which will be directed by Julius Avery (Son Of A Gun).

Overlord, written by Billy Ray (The Hunger Games, Captain Phillips) and Mark L Smith (The Revenant, The Hole), sounds very exciting indeed. Here’s the synopsis:

“On the eve of D-Day, American paratroopers are dropped behind enemy lines to carry out a mission crucial to the invasion’s success. But as they approach their target, they begin to realize there is more going on in this Nazi-occupied village than a simple military operation. They find themselves fighting against supernatural forces, part of a Nazi experiment.”

It feels like there’s been a bit of a lull in the busy “supernatural Nazi movie” subgenre recently. It’s been a while since we last had an Outpost, a Dead Snow or some such. The idea of a supernatural Band Of Brothers sounds pretty awesome, to be honest, especially with this casting news and the stamp of approval from that Abrams fella. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this one.
