James Wan is producing the Resident Evil reboot

Aquaman and The Conjuring director is on board for Resident Evil’s fresh start

The recent announcement that the Resident Evil movie franchise was getting the reboot treatment didn’t come with a huge amount of actual information, but important facts are beginning to escape from The Hive of secrecy.

Deadline reports that the impossibly busy James Wan is producing the first in the new Resident Evil series, which is aiming for another six movie franchise. Wan’s collaborator Greg Russo is writing the script, having partnered with the Saw and The Conjuring director on the in development Mortal Kombat reboot and Robotech.

They also note that the new movies, which are coming from Constantin Film, are looking for an entirely new cast, which makes a lot of sense given that The Final Chapter did bring some closure to Alice’s story.

Not only is Wan in the early stages of filming Aquaman, he’s also a producer on (deep breath) Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, Insidious: Chapter 4, Smart House, Saw: Legacy, that aforementioned Mortal Kombat reboot and other projects like Malignant Man and The Entity remake that have been in development for years. Oh and Lights Out 2 if that happens.

His presence is definitely reassuring, but it’s difficult to get too much of an idea from his presence given that he’s now the man who delivered incredibly successful giant action movies in addition to being the man who gave us Saw and Insidious. We’ll have to wait and see who’s announced as the director, not to mention the new cast…
