Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen casts American Honey’s Sasha Lane

Neil Marshall’s Hellboy reboot adds another star to the impressive cast

The cast of Neil Marshall’s upcoming Hellboy: Rise Of The Blood Queen is already pretty damn impressive, with David Harbour, Ian McShane and Milla Jovovich confirmed. Now, a rising star has signed on to join them.

Variety reports that Sasha Lane has been cast in the R-rated reboot from the comics’ creator Mike Mignola, and that she’ll be playing “Alice Monaghan, who is rescued in the origin stories by Hellboy from the fairies that kidnapped her.” Lane broke out last year with a stunning lead performance in Andrea Arnold’s critically beloved American Honey, and since then she’s been busy, with a lot of exciting projects in development (including Ben Wheatley’s Freakshift).

Lane’s casting follows hot on the heels of Splash Report‘s story that the BPRD team would include Alice Monaghan, grizzled tough guy Major Ben Daimio and Abe Sapien. If the report is accurate, then we’ll presumably be seeing someone new stepping into the rotten egg-loving blue skin of Abe, as opposed to the wonderful Doug Jones.

Harbour is donning the right hand of doom to play Hellboy, McShane is playing his mentor and father figure Professor Broom, and Jovovich is the titular villain. Shooting is set to begin soon in Bulgaria and the UK. Andrew Crosby, Christopher Golden and Mike Mignola worked on the screenplay, and it looks like the film will be leaning more into horror territory than Guillermo del Toro’s movies and taking full advantage of the probable R-rating.
