It’s been reported that Barbie director, Greta Gerwig (pictured above), is set to direct at least two Chronicles Of Narnia adaptations for Netflix.
The news was reported in The Hollywood Reporter, who spoke to Gerwig about her upcoming Barbie movie and the fact that her next movie probably won’t be about a toy: “It would have to be something that has some strange hook in me, that feels like it goes to the marrow.” she told the publication.
Netflix reported back in 2018 that they were set to develop new series and film projects based on C.S. Lewis’ beloved The Chronicles of Narnia series.
Under the terms of a multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company, Netflix has said it is set to develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films for its members worldwide.
The books were last adapted for film back in 2005. Out of the seven books, three were adapted at the time —The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian in 2008, and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader in 2010 and collectively grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide. The first two films were directed by Andrew Adamson and the third film was directed by Michael Apted.
In total the Narnia books have sold more than 100 million copies and been translated in more than 47 languages worldwide. The Netflix deal marks the first time that rights to the entire seven books of the Narnia universe have been held by the same company.

Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix at the time. “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”
