Edgar Wright will direct Grasshopper Jungle

Edgar Wright signs on for insane-sounding YA sci-fi Grasshopper Jungle

Edgar WrightEdgar Wright is starting to set up new projects in the wake of leaving Ant-Man, and it’s been announced that he will direct Grasshopper Jungle.

Deadline reports that Wright will begin work on the YA sci-fi after completing his Working Title action movie Baby Driver.

Grasshopper Jungle is described as “Stand By Me meets Attack The Block… a coming-of-age story that focuses on an Iowa teen trying to come to grips with his own raging hormones and sexual feelings as he and his cohorts cause a deadly genetically engineered plague that unleashes an army of 6-foot-tall praying mantises. Those bugs live the life these guys wish for, acting on an insatiable appetite for fighting, food, and fornicating.”

Scott Rosenberg (Con Air, Things To Do In Denver When You’re Dead) is adapting Andrew Smith’s novel.

This sounds quite insane and very promising indeed, and the writer-director pairing of Rosenberg and Wright sounds fantastic to us.

You can buy Grasshopper Jungle for £5.59 at Amazon.co.uk.
