Doctor Who Series 9 is already packed out with brilliant guest stars and it hasn’t even started yet. Already confirmed to be appearing are Paul Kaye (Strutter), Rufus Hound (The Wedding Video), Jaye Griffiths (Silent Witness) and Maisie Williams (Game Of Thrones), as well as returning stars Michelle Gomez as Missy, Ingrid Oliver as Osgood and Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stuart.

The BBC has just confirmed another guest star for the series, BAFTA winner Rebecca Front, who will make her Doctor Who debut in episode 7.

In a statement, the BBC said: “Rebecca will guest in an adventure that sees the return of the Zygons, although her role in the show is currently closely guarded – possibly by UNIT who also appear in the action-packed two-parter.”

Front’s appearance won’t be the first time she’s worked with Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman. She was a series regular on political comedy The Thick Of It, where she played Rt Hon Nicola Murray MP opposite Capaldi’s spin doctor Malcolm Tucker. Front also played Coleman’s mother Mrs Bennet in the BBC drama Death Comes To Pemberley.

Doctor Who Series 9 premieres this autumn on BBC One in the UK and BBC America in the US. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
