CBS wants Star Trek stand-alone series starring Michelle Yeoh

CBS is working on a Star Trek: Discovery spin-off starring Michelle Yeoh as Georgiou

Word on the space grapevine is that Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden DragonCrazy Rich Asians) might well be getting her own Star Trek series.

According to Deadline, CBS is currently weighing up its options and considering a TV series starring Yeoh as her Star Trek: Discovery character Captain Emperor Georgiou. The series would be stand-alone and air on CBS All Access.

Yeoh is already set to return to Discovery for Season 2, so it looks as though the new series could end up focusing on her adventures after that season in Starfleet’s mysterious Section 31 division.

The series would be the second in a collection of new Star Trek spin-offs following Discovery, the first of course being the upcoming series starring Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard.

Stewart already has a big influence on the show, with writer Michael Chabon telling IGN: “He’s really pushing us to try to do something new and different with the character. And that’s why he wants to play it, so that he can play something that honours the character, that’s true to the character… [Stewart] wants to see Jean-Luc Picard having experiences, having adventures, and be put in situations we haven’t seen before.”

Star Trek: Discovery returns for Season 2 premieres on Netflix UK on 18 January 2019. Get all the latest sci-fi news with every issue of SciFiNow.
