Alien Covenant casts Hateful Eight star

The Prometheus sequel has added another intriguing name to its cast

In the wake of the casting of Katherine Waterston and Danny McBride, we’re starting to get used to hearing about exciting actor additions when it comes to Prometheus sequel Alien: Covenant. Now, we have another name to add to the list: Demian Bichir.

According to Deadline, the recent star of Quentin Tarantino’s The Hateful Eight, in addition to the likes of Paul Feig’s The Heat and Steven Soderbergh’s Che, will join a cast that already includes the returning Michael Fassbender, in addition to Waterston and McBride. As with everyone else, Fassbender aside, there’s no word on exactly who he will be playing yet, but it bodes well. The original Alien was filled with interesting characters personality-wise, and so far the roster of acting talent would seem to indicate that there is a similar aim here. Maybe it’s just wishful thinking on our part, but we’re holding onto it nonetheless.

For those who are unfamiliar (or may have forgotten), the plot follows the crew of the colony ship Covenant, who discover Fassbender’s android David as the sole ‘survivor’ on a dangerous world – and you can probably guess what kind of creatures will be dwelling there. The fact that Fassbender is the sole returning cast member from Prometheus (with it being recently confirmed that Noomi Rapace would not be coming back) tells you all you need to know about how high the mortality rate will likely be).

Original director Ridley Scott is back on directing duties, working on a script from Michael Green that was subsequently rewritten by Jack Paglen. In addition, Scott will be on producing duties alongside David Giler, Mark Huffam, Michael Schaefer and Walter Hill.

Alien: Covenant will be released in cinemas in 2017 – you can download Alien: The Complete Manual from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For more news about the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
