TV Guide reports that the veteran of genre classics like Xena and Battlestar Galactica has been cast in Agents Of SHIELD‘s second season, but who she’s playing and how long she’ll star is classified information.
So who could she be playing? Could she be a senior agent, similar to Saffron Burrows’ Agent Victoria Hand? Another old friend of Coulson’s, like Bill Paxton’s John Garrett (only without the turtleneck and evil-ness, hopefully)?
There’s also the matter of Skye’s parentage. We know they’re not human, but that’s about it. Could Lawless be playing her superhuman mother?
This is the problem with the Marvel universe. There really is no shortage of characters for someone like Lucy Lawless to play but if we had the choose… give us Carol Danvers.
Sure, there’s been talk of a Captain Marvel movie, but Lawless’ commanding presence and icy certainty would be a perfect fit for the US Air Force officer and military intelligence veteran who butted heads with Marvel supervillains.
It’s not hard to picture her riffing off Agent Coulson and trading barbs as the rebuilding of SHIELD post-HYDRA leads to a change in leadership.
It’d be a nice teaser too to spend some serious time with Danvers long before she becomes exposed to the haywire Kree Psyche-Magnitron, and it can only help the show to have a serious player in the wider Marvel Universe take a regular role.
