Assassin’s Creed new trailer Fassbender is a past and present badass

Michael Fassbender is a stone cold killer across time in new Assassin’s Creed trailer

A new trailer has arrived for Justin Kurzel’s film of Assassin’s Creed, and it’s looking pretty awesome. It features lots of new footage, shows us more of the cast, and does a good job of breaking down the cast for newcomers to the franchise.

The movie’s incredible cast includes Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Ariane Labed (The Lobster, Alps), Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire, Boardwalk Empire), Brendan Gleeson (Calvary, Harry Potter), Callum Turner (Green Room, Glue), Octavia Selena Alexandru (Game Of Thrones) and Charlotte Rampling.

“Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organisation in the present day.”

Obviously making a good video game movie is something that even awesome filmmakers seem to struggle with, but this looks like it’s shaping up really nicely. We’re huge fans of Justin Kurzel, who gave us Snowtown and Macbeth and we’re hoping he can bring the same blend of atmosphere, emotion and gritty violence to this. Meanwhile, the presence of this heavyweight cast is mightily reassuring. Could this finally be the film to break the videogame movie curse? Well, we can hope, right? Let’s all cross our fingers.

Assassin’s Creed will be released in the US and the UK on 1 January. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
