1899 is an eight episodes series that follows the mysterious circumstances around the voyage of an immigrant ship from Europe to New York. The passengers, all of different backgrounds and nationalities, are united by their hopes and dreams for a new century and their future abroad. When they discover a second ship adrift on the open sea that had gone missing for months, their journey takes an unexpected turn. What they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a nightmare-like riddle, connecting each of the passenger’s pasts through a web of secrets.

A new behind-the-scenes clip has also been unveiled from the series, where Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odartalk about their collaboration together and reveal new images from the cutting edge and custom built LED virtual production studio called the “Volume”.

The Volume frees the imagination,” says writer, showrunner and producer Jantje Friese, “this visionary technology offers almost limitless possibilities for historical and fantastic stories.

Using this state-of-the-art technology, virtual sets and locations can be projected behind the actors in a way that the camera department and actors feel as if they are at the original locations,” director, showrunner and producer Baran bo Odar adds. “This helps more than anything else to set the right mood while acting.”

1899 will be available worldwide on Netflix starting this winter
