Doctor Jekyll: Eddie Izzard stars in Hammer’s new horror

As we reported last month, Hammer Films is officially back and its first movie will be Doctor Jekyll, starring Eddie Izzard playing Nina Jekyll in a modern interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

Ex-convict Rob takes the carer position to the infamous Nina Jekyll in Doctor Jekyll, but little does he know he’s part of an evil master plan devised by her alter ego Rachel Hyde. But to what lengths will Rob go to satisfy his client’s weird wishes and his own ambitions for the daughter he has never even seen?

Directed by Joe Stephenson (Chicken) from a screenplay by Dan Kelly-Mulhern, the movie stars Eddie Izzard (Stay Close), Scott Chambers (Chicken), Lindsay Duncan (The Wheel Of Time) and Simon Callow (The Witcher).

The iconic Hammer Films and Studios has been acquired by theatre and entertainment mogul John Gore. The studio was founded in 1934. As well as significant investment, Gore’s new vision for the company, fuelled by a lifelong love of all things Hammer, will lead to a string of new films bearing the iconic Hammer name, and Doctor Jekyll is only the beginning.

“Given Doctor Jekyll was the first Gothic Horror book it is very appropriate that Joe Stephenson’s thrilling new film should be the first of a new generation of Hammer movies,” said Gore.
