Tomb Raider reboot movie gets writer and director

The gritty Tomb Raider remake gets going as crew is assembled

It’s been a little while since we heard anything about the gritty Tomb Raider reboot, which will hopefully embrace the spirit of the new games and expel the memories of those godawful Angelina Jolie movies.

Now, THR reports that a writer and a director has been found.

Roar Uthaug will direct the film about Lara Croft’s first adventure. Most news sites are reporting him as the director of Norwegian disaster movie The Wave, but horror fans will know him as the man behind excellent 2006 slasher Cold Prey. He also helmed the decent Viking chase movie Escape, and so has a track record of strong female characters facing impossible odds in frozen wastes.

Meanwhile, Geneva Robertson-Dworet is in negotiations to write the script. Her script Hibernation is on the Black List, and she’s one of nine (!) writers on IMDB for Transformers 5.

Tomb Raider has been development for five years so fingers crossed this means we’ll actually get to see a film in the not to distant future.
