SDCC: Tron 2 to be titled ‘Legacy’

by James Rundle

troncomp_ref-550x294During the panel for the Tron sequel at San Diego Comic-Con, Disney unceremoniously revealed that the title of the film will be Tron Legacy, and showed off concept art as well as a lightcycle.

New music for the film has been recorded by Daft Punk, who have apparently laid down over 20 tracks for the film already, according to director Joe Kosinski, who appeared with Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde, Steven Lisberger and Garrett Hedlund in a panel moderated by Patton Oswalt. Kosinski told audiences about the universe of the new film, saying that it was recognisable to fans of the original film, but had evolved on its own inside the fictional world, being “futuristic” and updating the retro look of the original. The environment was described as “photo-real or photo-surreal”, which matches with what we saw from the concept art.

The new lightcycle, which was seen by attendees of last year’s convention, was also previewed in much more detail along with a number of other vehicles. An image of the lightcycle can be seen below, courtesy of /Film:

Throughout the day and before the convention, the studio had also been sending out faux-tokens for ‘Flynn’s Arcade’, a real-life setup for the film that the audience was later invited to.

Tron 2 stars Garret Hedlund, Jeff Bridges, John Hurt, Bruce Boxleitner and Olivia Wilde. The film is scheduled for a 2010 release.

Re your “Tron 2 to be titled Legacy” article: that’s Olivia Wilde, not Olivia Williams.

So it is, my head seems to be stuck in Dollhouse. Thanks for the correction.

Shouldn’t that be: “Tron 2 stars Jeff Bridges, Garret Hedlund, John Hurt, Bruce Boxleitner and Olivia Wilde.”

Also, I noticed it still says “Olivia Williams” (instead of “Olivia Wilde”) in the second paragraph of the article.

Thanks for the Olivia Wilde correction again.
