{"id":129250,"date":"2023-06-22T10:19:27","date_gmt":"2023-06-22T09:19:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.scifinow.co.uk\/?p=129250"},"modified":"2023-06-22T10:19:27","modified_gmt":"2023-06-22T09:19:27","slug":"frightfest-2023-artwork-inspired-by-genres-mad-doctors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.scifinow.co.uk\/events\/frightfest-2023-artwork-inspired-by-genres-mad-doctors\/","title":{"rendered":"FrightFest: 2023 artwork inspired by genre\u2019s mad doctors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frightfest.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FrightFest<\/a> film festival has brand new artwork every year and this year&#8217;s has been inspired by the genre\u2019s most celebrated mad doctors!<\/p>\n<p>FrightFest was conceived by Paul McEvoy, Ian Rattray and Alan Jones and staged its first event in 2000 at the Prince Charles cinema, off London&#8217;s Leicester Square. Its August Bank Holiday weekend date has remained a fixture ever since.<\/p>\n<p>The objective of FrightFest was to provide the UK with a horror fantasy festival of similar stature to the market leaders in Europe, Sitges (Spain) and Brussels (Belgium). FrightFest has since evolved into a community where audiences and guests alike travel from all over the world to be part of the event&#8217;s unique atmosphere.<\/p>\n<p>Graham Humphreys\u2019 poster design for 2023 marks the 15<sup>th<\/sup> FrightFest appearance for his iconic Monster.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis year\u2019s FrightFest poster share its theme with the annual FrightFest book, exploring the subject of Mad Doctors,&#8221; said Graham. &#8220;Once again, my artwork needed to be built in multiple parts that could be dismantled and rearranged across different formats, allowing individual elements to work on their own.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em><strong>Re-Animator\u2019s <\/strong><\/em>Herbert West, is clearly referenced by the FrightFest ghoul. He is surrounded by a series of classic \u2018mad doctors\u2019 in film. Unsurprisingly, they are all men!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s annual Bank Holiday event, the UK\u2019s largest celebration of genre cinema, takes place at Cineworld Leicester Square between Thurs Aug 24 &amp; Mon Aug 28, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>FrightFest 2023&#8217;s line-up of films will be announced on Thursday 13<sup>th<\/sup> July. <\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Keep it here at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scifinow.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SciFiNow<\/a> for all FrightFest news and reviews.\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s almost August and you know what that means: FrightFest!
