Jonah Hauer-King has joined the cast as Ariel&#8217;s royal love interest, Prince Eric.<\/p>\n<p>Up and coming actor Hauer-King&#8217;s film credits include\u00a0<em><strong>A Dog&#8217;s Way Home\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>and\u00a0<em><strong>The Song Of Names<\/strong><\/em>. He is also set to appear in Blumhouse Productions&#8217;\u00a0<em><strong>Once Upon A Time In Staten Island<\/strong><\/em>, which also stars Naomi Watts, Frank Grillo and Bobby Cannavale.<\/p>\n<p>Hauer-King has also starred in TV projects like BBC One&#8217;s\u00a0<em><strong>Howards End<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0<em><strong>Little Women\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>and <em><strong>World On Fire<\/strong><\/em>, and upcoming television film\u00a0<em><strong>Agatha And The Curse Of Ishtar<\/strong><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The actor scored the\u00a0<em><strong>Little Mermaid<\/strong><\/em> role following two screen tests, one of which was with director Rob Marshall. He beat out\u00a0<em><strong>Krypton<\/strong><\/em>&#8216;s Cameron Cuffe for the role.<\/p>\n<p>Hauer-King joins a cast made up of\u00a0Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jacob Tremlay (<em><strong>Room<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0<em><strong>Wonder<\/strong><\/em>) as Ariel\u2019s fish friend Flounder, Awkwafina (<em><strong>Ocean\u2019s 8<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0<em><strong>Crazy Rich Asians<\/strong><\/em>) as seagull Scuttle, Melissa McCarthy (<em><strong>Ghostbusters<\/strong><\/em>,\u00a0<em><strong>Bridesmaids<\/strong><\/em>) as villain Ursula and Javier Bardem (<em><strong>No Country For Old Men<\/strong><\/em>, <em><strong>Skyfall<\/strong><\/em>)\u00a0as King Triton.<\/p>\n<p>Disney\u2019s original animated version of\u00a0<em><strong>The Little Mermaid<\/strong><\/em>, which was released in 1989,\u00a0\u00a0follows the story of Ariel, a red-headed mermaid who wishes to be human after falling in love with Prince Eric. She makes a deal with Ursula the sea witch, and trades her voice for legs so that she can live on the shore and gain Eric\u2019s love.
