Top action figures this month: Star Wars, Transformers, G.I. Joe

Get those imaginations firing because we have some awesome action figures coming your way this month…

Winter is coming… which means it’s a great time to settle indoors and play with some cool toys and action figures.

For us – ahem – genre aficionados, there’s nothing we quite like more than appreciating some cool geek stuff and this month we have round-up of some brilliant toys and action figures currently on the market. From Transformers to Star Wars to G.I Joe, we have you covered…

Transformers Generations Comic Edition: Shockwave

First of all, how cool is this box?! Some boxes just hold action figures, some boxes are just an entity on its own. This box looks like a comic book cover and that’s no mistake because comic book Transformers bots are stepping off the page and onto collectors’ shelves with Transformers Comic Edition Shockwave!

Ruled by logic, if it is more logical for Shockwave to override Megatron and seize command of the Decepticons, he will take that chance. This Shockwave figure features comic-accurate deco and details, celebrating 40 years since the first Transformers comics were issued in 1984. The action figure converts from robot to Cybertronian spaceship mode and even comes with the head of Optimus Prime piece that can be placed on the included display stand!

Price: €47.99

Star Wars The Black Series

This is not the clone you’re looking for. Or is it? The Star Wars The Black Series includes 6 inch action figures, vehicles, and roleplay items from the 40-plus-year legacy of the Star Wars Galaxy. We got to test out the ‘Clone Trooper & Battle Droid’ (inspired by the well-loved animated series) and ‘Rebel Trooper & Stormtrooper’ (inspired by Episode IV in the classic trilogy) both of which come complete with two action figures, all with various weapons and accessories. Are the limbs fully rotating? You betcha. Can the helmets be removed? Affirmative. And you can guess which face is underneath it…

Price: £44.99 each (two figures per pack)

Star Wars The Vintage Collection

Now, we’re not sure we like the word ‘vintage’ in the name of these toys because as soon as we opened up the box and held the figures in our hands a whole battalion of memories came flooding back to us, playing very similar figures in our bedrooms as children. Yes, those of a certain age (and younglings who want to make new memories) will very much enjoy these.

The Vintage Collection celebrates the legacy of Star Wars with premium 3.75-inch scale vehicles, playsets, and action figures for adults and kids. We – ahem – ‘tested’ the ‘Captain Enoch & Thrawn’s Night Troopers’ 3.75-inch action figure set (9.5 cm) which is inspired by Disney+’s live action series, Star Wars: Ahsoka and comes complete with blaster accessories. We also played with, we mean tested, the ‘X-wing Pilot 3.75-inch action figure 4-pack’ which is also based on X-wing pilots from Star Wars: Ahsoka and all of which have removable helmets, which is very cool.

Price: £55.99 each (box of four)

G.I. Joe Classified Series

You know, we have a lot in common with G.I Joes. They have a special set of skills, we have a special set of skills… our skills might be effectively playing with brilliant geek toys like these G.I. Joe Classified Series sets, but why get bogged down in the details?!

These retro toys really did bring back some memories for us – you can’t help but feel nostalgic at the classic boxing, the standard 6-inch action figure size and that iconic G.I.Joe logo. We checked out the ‘Dreadnok Torch’ figure (which is new to the G.I. Joe Classified Series line don’t you know) and comes ready for adventure with more accessories than you can shake a flamethrower at, including a fuel tank backpack, connecting hose, 2 weapon accessories, multiple flame effects and, erm, a flamethrower. It features a classic design that has been updated to bring the Dreadnok Mercenary into the modern era.

Look, doctors can also be cool, okay? Just ask Carl “Doc” Greer. The character may be a pacifist but he’s never backed down from a challenge. His G.I. Joe Classified Series action figure comes with everything one needs in a medical emergency, including helmet, foldable stretcher that attaches to the figure’s back, medical bag and holster that plug into his vest, signal flare, taser, and his iconic green-tinted glasses; plus 4 removable pouches which are attached to his vest.

Yo Joe!
