World War Z 2 is back on with Utopia writer

Paramount is pushing ahead with World War Z 2

The road to the big screen wasn’t exactly a smooth one for World War Z, and looks like the sequel might follow suit – although not if Paramount has anything to say about it. To this end, Dennis Kelly, the writer of Channel 4’s critically acclaimed TV series Utopia, has been brought on board to rewrite the script of World War Z 2.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kelly was attached to help keep the wheels of production moving after news that director JA Bayona was being eyed up for Jurassic World 2. Plus, the fact that World War Z did incredibly well at the box office (despite the tumultuous production, beset with delays, a reported creative dispute between Brad Pitt and director Marc Forster, and the necessity of Drew Goddard and Damon Lindelof being parachuted in at the last minute) means that Paramount are remarkably keen to make sure this goes ahead.

Kelly will rewrite the script that was originally penned by Steven Knight. So far, only Pitt is confirmed to return from the original’s cast.

World War Z 2 will be released in cinemas on 9 June 2017. For more news on the biggest movies, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
