Wonder Woman trailer heads back to WW1

The first Wonder Woman trailer is very much an origin story

Well, it seemed likely that this year’s San Diego Comic-Con would play host to some sort of Wonder Woman-related reveal, and now it seems like our prediction has come true, as evidenced by the newly unveiled trailer, which you can check out below.

Judging by what we’ve seen, Wonder Woman looks to be very much the Captain America: The First Avenger of the DC Cinematic Universe – only with a few mythological themes thrown in. Various staples of the character’s original backdrop have been kept, such as the whole being-brought-to-life-by-Zeus aspect, and her involvement in World War 1 alongside Steve Trevor (Chris Pine). Their relationship looks beautifully played, and the action sequences are damn too (check out that lasso of truth). The plot itself doesn’t get a massive amount of definition in this footage, but we’re just quibbling in all honesty: this first proper glimpse looks excellent, and we can’t wait to see more. Anyway, take a look at the trailer below:

Below is the official synopsis for Wonder Woman:

“Wonder Woman” hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers…and her true destiny.

Wonder Woman will be released in cinemas on 2 June 2017. You can download The 25 Greatest DC Comics Ever digital edition from GreatDigitalMags.com now. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
