Wonder Woman casting: Star Trek star is Steve Trevor

Guess who is being lined up for Patty Jenkin’s Wonder Woman film

With the character having already been heavily rumoured to be appearing in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad movie (played by Fury’s Scott Eastwood), new rumours are pegging Steve Trevor to show up in Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman – although this time it’s Star Trek actor Chris Pine who’s being linked with the role.

In the comics, he is Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot in the movie)’s foremost love interest, being an army intelligence officer who crash-lands on Paradise Island – the home of Wonder Woman. After falling in love, the two abscond to Trevor’s home of Boston, where she takes on the identity of Diana Prince. Both their origin stories have been changed a number of times since then, but hey ho.

According to Variety, Pine was approached after Eastwood was given the choice of either testing for the Trevor role or a guaranteed supporting part in Suicide Squad. He chose the latter, paving the way for Pine, who since Star Trek has starred in the likes of Unstoppable, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit and Horrible Bosses.

Wonder Woman will be released in cinemas in 2017. For more on the comic-books that inspired the movie, pick up the SciFiNow Superhero Movie Collection.
