Wonder Woman 2 wants Kristen Wiig as Cheetah

Kristen Wiig is in talks to play villain Cheetah in the Wonder Woman sequel

Wonder Woman 2 might have just found its villain: according to Variety, Kristen Wiig is currently the top choice to play Cheetah, and we’re very into it.

Director Patty Jenkins had reportedly wanted Wiig as the villain for a while, and flagged her interest to the Bridesmaids and Ghostbusters star before leaving to scout locations for the sequel.

It’s currently unknown if Wiig herself is keen to get involved, but she has already started discussing the specifics with film execs.

For those unfamiliar with Cheetah, a little history: first appearing in ‘Wonder Woman #6’ in 1943 she’s one of Diana’s oldest adversaries, though there have been four incarnations of Cheetah since her debut: Priscilla Rich (the Golden and Silver Age Cheetah), Deborah Domaine (the Bronze Age Cheetah), Barbara Ann Minerva (the post-Crisis and current Cheetah), and Sebastian Ballesteros (a male Cheetah who briefly took the role in 2001).

Rich, Minerva and Ballesteros all had the physical appearance of a cheetah, which was granted to them by the plant-god Urzkartaga. Some incarnations also possessed superhuman speed, reaction time, strength and durability, while their sense of smell is enhanced and they can see in the dark.

Wonder Woman 2 is in US cinemas 1 November 2019. Get all the latest superhero news with every issue of SciFiNow.
