X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek are performing admirably in ticket pre-sales, with the possibility that they could outstrip last year’s summer blockbuster Iron Man’s high figures.
Wolverine is reportedly outpacing Iron Man’s sales by 3-1, while Star Trek is selling 25% more than even that. The news will likely calm fear at Fox, which reacted furiously to a leak of the film several weeks ago. If anything, that appears to have stimulated more interest in seeing the finished product however, thanks a stream of publicity across nearly all major news outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom. Paramount will also be heartened by the news, which validates their move of putting a sequel into preproduction before the release of this film on 7/8 May.
Star Trek has received rave reviews from early press screenings, including a four star grade from SciFiNow. X-Men Origins: Wolverine is released on 1 May 2009.
