Wolverine 3 confirms return of classic character

Find out which star of the original X Men movies will return for Wolverine 3

Actual details about Wolverine 3 – the (obviously) third solo Logan movie, and Hugh Jackman’s final appearance in the title role – are thin on the ground at present, save for rumours that it will closely follow Mark Millar’s classic Old Man Logan storyline.

However, one thing that has now been confirmed is that Professor Xavier – specifically Patrick Stewart’s older version of the character – will be appearing in some form. This nugget was confirmed by Stewart himself in an interview with Collider, in which he said: “There is a project in development. I understand that Professor Xavier will be making more than an appearance, however, and that intrigues me.”

So there you have it. Whether it’ll actually be Professor X showing up in person to deal out advice, or he’ll appear as a ghostly presence, a la Jean Grey in The Wolverine, only time will tell. Considering that Old Man Logan takes place in a future world where the supervillains have won, and Wolverine is a haunted, disillusioned old man who has given up fighting, we’re thinking it’ll be the latter.

In addition to Jackman’s involvement, The Wolverine 3 will be directed by the returning James Mangold, and written by Michael Green (Green Lantern, Heroes).

The Wolverine 3 will be released in cinemas in 2017. For more about the comics that inspired the film, pick up the 100 All-Time Greatest Comics: Revised Edition bookazine now.
