The director is currently developing the story with Chris Morgan, a new draft of which is being based on a previous script by Warren Beatty. The leaked script received highly positive reviews on the internet several months ago, which set the action up to, including, and after Emergence Day.

Gears Of War is a post-apocalyptic third-person shooter, which is set on another world named Sera. The tranquillity of civilisation there is interrupted suddenly and violently by the emergence of a life form named the Locust, which sets about annihilating humanity. The titular Gears are soldiers sent out specifically to combat the threat through the shattered ruins of humanity’s world.

The film is being produced by the nearly defunct New Line Cinema, which had initially scheduled the film for a summer 2009 release. Given the current climate at the studio right now and various other factors, however, it is likely that the release will be heavily postponed.
