War For The Planet Of The Apes trailer goes on the offensive

It’s all-out carnage in the first trailer for War For The Planet Of The Apes

“I did not start this war. I offered you peace, I showed you mercy, but now you’re here to finish us off for good.”

So says Caesar (Andy Serkis) in the fascinating first trailer for War For The Planet Of The Apes, the third movie in the rebooted franchise to cap off what has been a great week for film trailers.

In truth, it’s not quite a planet of apes just yet, what with there still being a significant human resistance in the way, including among their number the sadistic-looking Colonel (Woody Harrelson channelling his inner Kurtz). To get up to this point, there clearly has to be a substantial number of ape-on-human punch-ups to be had – which judging by this trailer, seems to be provided in abundance. Welcome to the jungle indeed.

WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn and Toby Kebbell and is directed by Matt Reeves.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel.  After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind.  As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
