Walk The Line director takes on The Wolverine

Marvel’s mutant solo outing is finally back on

Having previously worked with Wolverine star Hugh Jackman on 2001 romantic comedy/fantasy Katie & Leopold, director James Mangold has been confirmed as the helmsman for The Wolverine, which is set to completely ignore the lamentable X-Men Origins: Wolverine in favour of a standalone tale.

Mangold has a fearsome pedigree, having directed Girl, Interrupted, Walk The Line, Cop Land, 3:10 To Yuma, and Knight & Day, and it seems safe to get excited.

Written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie), the plot of The Wolverine is drawn from the original 1982 Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, and has our clawed Canuck battling ninjas and gangsters for the heart of a Japanese crimelord’s daughter.
