Plus, the world’s worst interview with Oren Peli.

The trailer for the sequel to one of 2009’s most overrated films emerges, and apparently PRs are already trying to fill certain websites with the news that it’s been pulled from theatres. It’s not scary, it’s just a woman standing in a doorway. See below.

To be fair, some of my antipathy towards the franchise stems from a particularly uninteresting interview one of my colleagues had with the director of the first film, Oren Peli, several months ago. I’ve included a segment below to illustrate.

How is Paranormal Activity 2 shaping up? Got any plot points for us?

Unfortunately we’re keeping everything under wraps and generally speaking I have a policy of not discussing projects until they are done. So no details.

Can you comment on the publicised spat between Lionsgate and Paramount regarding director Kevin Greutert?

I’m staying out of it. I’m leaving all this kind of stuff to the marketing people.

Can you tell us about Area 51?

Like I said before, I’m not discussing any projects until they are done.

Will it employ the same filming techniques as Paranormal Activity?

No comment, sorry.

Can you maybe talk a little bit about Area 51’s plot then?

No I can’t say anything about it at all.

Will the film be released this year?

What else is on your slate to direct?

If there was something I wouldn’t be able to talk about it, sorry.

Paranormal Activity 2 is due for release later this year.
