Veteran comic-book artist Gene Colan dies

Our thoughts are with his friends and family.

It’s with genuine sadness that we report the death of the legendary Gene Colan, who died yesterday, June 23, aged 84, following complications from liver disease and a broken hip.

Born in New York in 1926, Colan was active in comic-books since 1944 and worked on an astonishing number of titles from the Sixties through to the Eighties, most recently winning an Eisner Award for 2009’s Captain America issue 601, which he picked up with series writer Ed Brubaker.

Take a look at Colan’s impressive catalogue of covers and you will find some from your own collection.
