Marvel may be advancing on DC in the comic stakes, but the traditional kings of the small-screen superhero are keeping them on their toes with a left-field new comic-book adaptation taken from DC’s weird and wonderful Vertigo imprint.

Rather than another new superhero spinning-off out of Arrow, Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas and Veronica Mars movie co-writer Diane Ruggiero are to adapt Chris Roberson and Michael Allred’s iZombie.

The cult comic-book follows Gwen, a med student-turned-zombie who works in a mortuary to get access to fresh brains. Gaining their memories as she feasts (Warm Bodies style) she’s able to solve their murders with the help of her medical examiner boss and a police detective.

Co-creator and art wizard Allred threw in his own casting tip on Twitter, “I think @JessicaStroup would make a KILLER Gwen!”

Recently promoted to regular on The Following Season 2, Stroup also played Cady Hanson in Reaper, as well as roles in so-so horror flicks The Hills Have Eyes 2 and Prom Night.
