Utopia US remake confirms best possible director

HBO’s Utopia remake producer will also direct all first season episodes

utopiaHBO’s remake of Dennis Kelly’s Utopia comes from producer David Fincher, but he’s just confirmed that he will direct all of the first season episodes.

The director of Gone Girl, The Social Network, Zodiac, Fight Club and Se7en revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he’s planning to direct each instalment of the first season, which we couldn’t be more thrilled about.

Speaking about what drew him to the project, the director said “I like the world of it, I like the characters – I love Dennis’s [Kelly, creator of the UK show] honesty and affinity for the nerds. I mean, I’ve always been a bit of a junior conspiracy theorist cos I don’t have time to connect them all! But it’s nice to see that somebody has.”

Fincher is working on the remake with writer Gillian Flynn, the author of Gone Girl. While it’s easy to have a knee-jerk “absolutely not!” reaction to the Utopia remake because of how good the original series is (series two continued to impress), it’s very difficult not to be impressed by the way this is shaping up. Now we want to see who they cast…

You can buy Utopia Series 1-2 on DVD for £19.99 at Amazon.co.uk. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
