Underworld: Blood Wars trailer keeps the vampire-lycan war raging

Selene is back for war in the Underworld: Blood Wars trailer

It’s been a while since we heard anything about the latest instalment in the Underworld saga, but a trailer for Underworld: Blood Wars has been unleashed for fans of vampire-lycan scrapping to enjoy.

The new movie sees Kate Beckinsale return to the role of Selene, the vampiric badass who’s consistently caught in the middle of a war between vampires and lycans, and the addition of some new cast members, including Sherlock‘s Lara Pulver and Game Of Thrones‘ Tobias Menzies as vamp villains Semira and Marius respectively.

Divergent‘s Theo James and the great Charles Dance return after appearing in 2012’s frankly disappointing Underworld: Awakening, which introduced Selene and Michael’s daughter, but which didn’t actually bring back Scott Speedman and the hybrid Michael.

Blood Wars is directed by Anna Foerster, a veteran of Outlander and Criminal Minds who’s making her feature debut and will be the franchise’s first female director. It’s written by Cory Goodman, the man who gave us Priest and The Last Witch Hunter.

“The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS follows Vampire death dealer, Selene (Kate Beckinsale) as she fends off brutal attacks from both the Lycan clan and the Vampire faction that betrayed her. With her only allies, David (Theo James) and his father Thomas (Charles Dance), she must stop the eternal war between Lycans and Vampires, even if it means she has to make the ultimate sacrifice.”

Can Underworld: Blood Wars deliver the goods? Len Wiseman, the man behind the original series and producer of the sequels, is apparently planning a sixth movie, so we’d better hope so.

Underworld: Blood Wars is released on 6 January in the US and 3 February in the UK. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
