Transformers 5 trailer brings back the Bayhem

Optimus Prime is AWOL in the new Transformers 5 trailer

Michael Bay, you surprise us. For the first half of the trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight – the fifth outing in the series – you could be forgiven for forgetting that this is a Transformers movie.

Skipping alternately between Arthurian England and WW2-era Germany – both areas we knew we’d be visiting – it seems that something strange is afoot. A massive, planet-sized force is on its way to Earth, and Optimus Prime is nowhere to be found, as we learn from Anthony Hopkins’ narrator (not that we trust him, having watched Westworld).

On the plus side, the likes of Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and Lt Colonel William Lennox (Josh Duhamel) are back, assisted by Bumblebee et al (who comes off worse in a scrap with an apparently possessed Optimus Prime). We’d be lying if we said that we had a handle on what was going on, but colour us intrigued nonetheless.

You can read the synopsis and watch the new trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight:

After the battle in Hong Kong, Optimus Prime faces a new threat which he can’t fight on his own. So he must search for new recruitments to help save Earth and the universe! While Optimus leaves Earth, Bumblebee, Drift, Hound, Trailbreaker, Blurr and the Dinobots must stop Galvatron from using the rebuilt space bridge to bring the new threat to Earth. Meanwhile the humans are trying to build more human-made transformers to help our Autobot heroes!

Michael Bay is back on directing duties, with a cast that includes Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel and Liam Garrigan, and Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, John Goodman, Ken Watanabe and John DiMaggio among the voice cast.

Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in cinemas on 23 June 2017. For all the latest movie news, pick up the latest issue of SciFiNow.
