The Transformers movies have frequently been an easy target due to being… well, Transformers movies, but they never seem to have much trouble attracting decent actors.
In recent years we’ve seen the likes of Stanley Tucci, Frances McDormand and Kelsey Grammer acting alongside the Autobots, and don’t forget that Mark Wahlberg’s an Oscar-nominated actor. Now, another name has been added to the cast list for Transformers: The Last Knight: step forward Anthony Hopkins, with the news being confirmed in the below tweet:
The man, the myth, the legend – help us welcome Sir Anthony Hopkins to the #transformers universe. pic.twitter.com/PfkTuWZHD9

Additionally, a separate tweet hinted at exactly who (or more accurately, what) he’ll be playing:
Cybertron’s newest knight already has an armor of gold… #transformers

For those of you who are uninitiated in Transformers mythos, this is likely referring to Goldbug, who is generally depicted in the various media as a younger incarnation of movies mainstay Bumblebee. Considering that director Michael Bay recently tweeted a picture of the Autobot’s new look, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see it return with a new voice actor.
Hopkins joins a cast that already includes Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Josh Duhamel, Jerrod Carmichael, Allen Phoenix and Peter Cullen. Bay is directing from a script penned by Matt Holloway, Art Marcum and Ken Nolan.
Transformers: The Last Knight will be released in cinemas on 23 June 2017. For more news about the latest movies, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
