Directed by Joseph M Newman, This Island Earth starred Jeff Morrow, Faith Domergue and Rex Reason, and was released in the United States on 1 June 1955. The film was hailed for its use of special effects and the vividness of the Technicolor process, and came at a time when science fiction films were just starting to be recognised as ‘A’ properties, with The Day The Earth Stood Still in 1951 and Forbidden Planet two years later in 1957.
