Third X Files movie planned for 2012?

David Duchovny drops some info on a possible third X Files movie.

PHpULvqwQjvUtvDavid Duchovny has followed in the footsteps of co-star Gillian Anderson and stated plans for the rumoured third X Files movie. Speaking to The Daily Beast he said the following:

“As far as the X Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy,” he says before suggesting a date for this project. “I think it’s natural for The X Files to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”

Mulder and Scully’s recent trip to screens was the critically maligned The X Files: I Want To Believe. Released in July 2008 the film only managed to garner a $68 million worldwide gross. This doesn’t bode too well for a third. When questioned about this film and its frosty reception, Duchovny was nothing but positive: “I was happy with it… I have nothing but respect for Chris Carter and the writing staff.”

So, with both Duchovny and Anderson clearly geared up for another venture into the paranormal, this third big-screen outing doesn’t seem too far out of the realms of possibility.
