Inspired by the iconic 1982 Chris Claremont and Frank Miller miniseries, The Wolverine has been set for a release date of 26 July 2013.
Although Hugh Jackman is returning to the role he made his own with 2000’s X-Men, The Wolverine won’t be a sequel to 2009’s messy X-Men Origins: Wolverine and with X-Men: First Class being a soft reboot, perhaps The Wolverine will spawn a distinct franchise of its own, leaving the Bryan Singer films far behind.
Filming began in October with director James Mangold (Copland, 3:10 To Yuma, Walk The Line) and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, X-Men).
