Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan’s The Strain is preparing for a second season of vampire plague horror, and a major role is getting recast.
Deadline reports that Max Charles is going to play the role of Dr Ephraim Goodweather’s (Corey Stoll) son Zach in the second season, replacing Ben Hyland.
The change is reportedly due to the fact that the role will be significantly more demanding in Season 2. Showrunner Carlton Cuse stated that “It is a pleasure to welcome Max Charles to the cast. We recast this part due to some specific story needs we have downstream. We are sad to see Ben go. He is a very talented actor and a wonderful person. We will all miss him and thank him for his great work.”
This isn’t the first shuffle for The Strain; David Bradley replaced John Hurt in the role of Abraham Sertrakian after Hurt filmed the pilot.
Zach didn’t exactly have an easy time of things in the first season. His mum and her new boyfriend were turned into monsters, and Kelly Goodweather’s (Natalie Brown) journey in the second book does put a lot of, ahem, strain on him.
