The Punisher TV series gains composer, loses Rosario Dawson

A couple of updates on Netflix’s The Punisher are swings and roundabouts

With Iron Fist done and The Defenders arriving imminently, the Netflix Marvel team is hard at work on The Punisher, which will give Jon Bernthal’s driven, scowling, nursery-rhyme-spitting vigilante his own 13 episode series. A couple of bits of information have arrived, one of which is great, one of which is fairly disappointing.

First up, the bad news: Rosario Dawson told Collider that she would not be appearing as Claire Temple in the show while discussing her work on Unforgettable and The Defenders.

“At the end of the day, it’s really hard to get all of those casts together,” she said. “For The Defenders, it was difficult to get everybody together. People are busy! There are so many times where I really want it to happen. I really wanted to do a cameo on The Punisher, but it doesn’t always work that way.”

Dawson’s Claire Temple has been the thread that has tied these different shows together, and she’s not only helped to give the Netflix Marvel universe a sense of unity, she’s also given it a bit of grounded humanity too.

The second bit of news is that Tyler Bates has been hired to write the score for The Punisher (via Film Music Reporter). Bates is no stranger to superhero movies, having worked on both Guardians Of The Galaxy films, and he’s worked on movies for Zack Snyder (300, Watchmen), Rob Zombie (Halloween, The Devil’s Rejects) as well as both John Wicks, The Belko Experiment and The Sacrament.

The Punisher stars Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Ben Barnes as Billy Russo (fans of the comic know where that’s going), Ebon Moss-Bachrach as Micro, Amber Rose Revah as Dinah Madani, Daniel Webber as Lewis Walcott, Paul Schulze as Rawlins and Jaime Ray Newman as Sarah Lieberman. The show is created by Hannibal‘s Steve Lightfoot.

The Punisher will be available on Netflix in 2017. Keep up with the latest genre news with the new issue of SciFiNow.
