The Predator adds Newsroom star opposite lead

The cast of The Predator is gradually rounding itself out

While there have been a few changes of late on Shane Black’s upcoming The Predator (with Boyd Holbrook recently being confirmed to replace Benicio del Toro in the lead role), things finally seem to be settling down behind the scenes, with Olivia Munn being the latest to be confirmed for a role.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Munn will play a scientist alongside Holbrook’s Special Forces commando, with the main story seeing ” the alien hunter — whom audiences have seen fight in jungles, concrete jungles, frozen wastelands and alien planets — in the harsh environment of … suburbia.” It sounds a fair bit like Predator 2 to us – and to be completely honest, we’d have much rather have seen it venture back into the jungle – but hey, who are we to judge. Plus, we trust Shane Black. We’re sure he knows what he’s doing.

Both actors come in off the back of notable roles. Holbrook has been prominent in Netflix hit Narcos, and will shortly star in Logan as cyborg cad Donald Pierce, while Munn followed up Aaron Sorkin’s HBO drama The Newsroom by playing Psylocke in X-Men: Apocalypse, and will be next be seen raising hell in Office Christmas Party. No one else has been confirmed at present (although the IMDb page intriguingly has Curtis ’50 Cent’ Jackson’ down as a rumour), although we’re sure that there’ll be plenty more nice surprises on this front in upcoming months. In any case, Munn and Holbrook are both great, so it’s a good start.

Shane Black is also writing the script alongside Fred Dekker, John Davis, Joel Silver and Lawrence Gordon producing, Bill Bannerman on board as executive producer and Blondel Aidoo as co-producer.

The Predator will be released in cinemas on 16 February 2018. For all the latest movie news, pick up the new issue of SciFiNow.
