The Mummy new international trailer has a lot more textbook Tom Cruise

More backstory and more banter in the new trailer for The Mummy

A new international trailer has arrived for The Mummy and it’s dropping more of Tom Cruise Tom Cruise-ing (big smiles, one-liners, more running), as well as a bit more backstory about Sofia Boutella’s Princess Ahmanet. Here we go…

So it starts a bit lighter but, for the most part, the tone seems fairly consistent with what we’ve already seen. There’s a bit more Annabelle Wallis, a bit more Jake Johnson, and Russell Crowe is still telling Cruise just how badly he’s f-ed up.

You can read the synopsis for The Mummy here:

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The film stars Russell Crowe, Jake Johnson, Chasty Ballesteros, Annabelle Wallis, Javier Botet and Courtney B Vance alongside Boutella and Cruise. Alex Kurtzman is directing, Jon Spaihts and Christopher McQuarrie wrote the screenplay and Kurtzman, Sean Daniel, Chris Morgan and Roberto Orci are acting as producers.

The Mummy is in UK cinemas from 9 June. Get all the latest fantasy news with every issue of SciFiNow.
