The task is simple: walk or die. Out this September, The Long Walk is a new dystopian movie adapted from Stephen King’s first-written novel, published back in 1979.

From Francis Lawrence, the director of The Hunger Games franchise films (Catching Fire, Mockingjay – Pts. 1 & 2, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), The Long Walk is an intense, chilling, and emotional thriller that challenges audiences to confront a haunting question: how far could you go? It follows a group of teenage boys who compete in an annual contest known as ‘The Long Walk’ where they must maintain a certain walking speed (3mph) or get shot.
The cast is led by Cooper Hoffman (Licorice Pizza), David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus), Ben Wang (American Born Chinese), Garrett Wareing (Manifest), Tut Nyuot (The Witcher: Blood Origin), Charlie Plummer (The Return), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), Jordan Gonzalez (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), Joshua Odjick (The Swarm), Judy Greer (Archer) and Mark Hamill (The Wild Robot).
The screenplay for the movie, based on the novel by Stephen King, is from JT Mollner, who wrote and directed one of 2023’s stand-out thrillers, Strange Darling (check out our FOUR STAR review here).
Though The Long Walk is not the first of King’s novels to be published, it was the first novel he wrote, having begun it in 1966–67, some eight years before his first published novel, Carrie, was released in 1974.
The Long Walk will be released in cinemas on 18 September
