HBO’s The Leftovers, starring Justin Theroux, Liv Tyler and Christopher Eccleston, has been confirmed by a second season.

Variety reports that the show, based on Tom Perotta’s novel and adapted by Damon Lindelof, has been locked in for a season two following what HBO describes as an “overwhelming response.”

HBO President Michael Lombardo stated that “We are thrilled to bring back The Leftovers for a second season with the exceptional talents of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta. It has been truly exciting to see the overwhelming response to their provocative and original storytelling. We look forward to continuing the journey as the show delves deeper into the lives of those who remain.”

The Leftovers also stars Paterson Joseph, Amy Brenneman, Ann Dowd, Michael Gaston and Chris Zylka.

We here in the UK have had to wait for The Leftovers, but it will be starting soon on Sky Atlantic. Reports from the US indicate that it’s a slow-burner, but with such a talented cast and a second season confirmed, this looks like something you’ll want to make time for.

The Leftovers begins on Sky Atlantic in September. You can buy The Leftovers in paperback for £6.39 at Amazon.co.uk.
